RE-FIT AND RE-DESIGN

30' X 10' LITTLE HOQUIAM

This boat had originally been outfitted as a gillnetter with a drum reel, a V-8 gas engine, hydraulic power pack and various other systems that significantly added to the weight of the boat detracting from performance. The new owner purchased the boat with the intent to re-fit for offshore tuna fishing based out of points on the Washington and Oregon coasts.  CMD was hired to design a new arrangement, engine and driveline installation.  First task, once the the hull and machinery spaces had been stripped of machinery and waterlogged structure was to weigh the boat as seen in the photo.  The Port Townsend Shipwright's Co-op is doing the work.

30' x 10' CRABBER

This boat is a simple re-design of an existing fiberglass hull that was brought to the Port Townsend Shipwright's Co-op.  The empty hull was weighed and then measured using traditional methods to create a 3D Rhino model, the basis for the new design.  The client was looking for a viable design that would use a 315 HP Volvo diesel inboard, fuel tanks and other existing parts.

56' SEINER INDIANA

60' STAYSAIL SCHOONER SUVA

A classic Ted Geary design built in 1939 in China entirely from teak. Her original gaff rig had been re-drawn by Ben Seaborn to a staysail schooner in the 1960's yet still her windward performance and tacking ability lacked.  While at the Port Townsend Shipwright's Co-op, I drew a new sail plan that increased the fore triangle by 10% allowing the boat to be much quicker in stays and point a few degrees higher.

100' SCHOONER ADVENTURESS

As part of the first phase of the 5 year centennial rebuild at Haven Boatworks, I had a chance to work on this schooner as a shipwright replacing her stem. Sound Experience requested a plan that detailed the scope of the work for USCG submittal and another plan for the new rudder.  She was originally designed by B.B. Crowninshield and built in East Boothbay, ME in 1913.

63' LOD SCHOONER DESTINY

Built in 1934 by August Pankey, Wilmington CA. Coastwise Marine Design drew a new sail plan for the Port Townswend Shipwright's Co-op as part of her extensive rebuild there.  Hasse and Co. Port Townsend Sails made all new sails.  Photo courtesy PT Sails.

65' FERRY CARLISLE II

This plan details a bow rebuild of the 1917 ex-mosquito fleet boat now passenger ferry, Carlisle II, by Haven Boatworks. I worked as a shipwright leading the bow rebuild including the stem replacement, thruster installation and most of the forward structure of the hull. I drafted this plan as a USCG submittal.

36' LOBSTER YACHT CHAUTARA

A Ralph Stanley original (ex-BOMPS) now with a new deck and longer house by Haven Boatworks. I worked as lead shipwright and drew this simple plan for the wonderful owners who participated thoroughly in the rebuild.

65' POWER YACHT MARDO

Working as the lead shipwright replacing the deck and superstructure by Haven Boatworks,  I drew these joiner details of the drop sash windows, mouldings and companionway hatch.  I re-designed the superstructure mouldings so rain water would better drain away from the windows.  I thoroughly enjoyed rebuilding a boat has has been under the same ownership for 59 years.

48' SLOOP CHRISTINA EOS DODGER

I modeled this concept for an aluminum NC cut dodger for the owner of a Christina 43 Hans Christian designed by Scott Sprague for Haven Boatworks.

38' GAUNTLET MORNING FLIGHT

New sail plan with greater fore triangle to relieve excess weather helm.

80' TUG PACIFIC PIONEER

New 3D accommodation plan concept in Rhinoceros and rudder tube re-design in FRP for Haven Boatworks.

65' POWER YACHT CARMELITA

A new foc's'le arrangement in 3D.

30' TROLLER RIGGING PLAN

A rigging/deck plan for Leon Miller's 30' troller.  Mast and boom to be used for deploying and retrieving a 10' skiff.
